Just Friday

So...........
I posted the daily journals over on the other site, checked my work email, checked my personal email, blogged through my entire roll, commented on a lot of posts, sat deep in thought over the concept of intentional community, and here I am.
I really wanted to post a Funny but it's not to be.
This has not been an easy week.
Very, very busy.
And I am very tired.
To make it worse I haven't seen my wife in almost two days.
Still Alive, right?
That's gotta count for something.
The house is getting shown again tomorrow.
Pray they like it.
No one has yet.
Wow, this is a depressing post.
Sorry.
Tomorrow and this weekend is summer-garden planting.
That always makes me smile.
Heck, I smiled when I just wrote that.
Love ya, folks.
Keep on truckin'.
Peace.

Friday Funny

A husband and wife were shopping in their local Wal-Mart. The husband picked up a case of Budweiser and put it in their cart.

"What do you think you're doing?" asked the wife.

"They're on sale; only $10 for 24 cans," he replied.

"Put them back, we can't afford them," demanded the wife. The husband obliged and they carried on shopping.

A few aisles further along the woman picked up a $20 jar of face cream and put it in the basket.

"What do you think you're doing?" asked the husband.

"Its my face cream. It makes me look beautiful," replied the wife.

Her husband retorted, "So does 24 cans of Budweiser and it's half the price."

On the Wal-Mart PA system: "Cleanup on aisle 25, we have a husband down."

Thanks again to Cyndy. Have a great weekend everyone.

A fine example

In response to a CPS thread about the pros/cons of text messaging, I threw out the following post. When I went back to see if anyone had responded, I re-read what I'd written and in a rather vain moment, I was amazed at how good it sounded. And so to continue my sinful vanity, I now share it with you. (As much for laughter as anything else.)

Aside from the obvious physically disconnected lifestyle that texting (and emails and computer forums to be fair) have brought about, I have to wonder if the sub-language of texting will take over normal grammar much the same way that printing has made cursive writing obsolete in our schools.

Of course the spelling of cursive writing versus printed writing are not different, I was speaking to the culture of the thing. Thirty years ago it would have been educational blasphemy, as well as being simply incorrect, to present something that was printed. It makes one wonder that even though now we could never imagine a world where what amounts to sloppy shorthand would be accepted as proper English, in thirty years who knows where we'll be.

Friday Funny

A few months back I had a conversation with my friend, Betsy, about homonyms. You know, same word-two meanings. We knew there were a lot of them but we couldn't think of more than a few. My friend Cyndy has been rocking my world with great Funny material, and she recently sent me this. Here you go, Betsy... this one's for you.

Can you read these right the first time?

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.
2) The farm was used to produce produce.
3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10) I did not object to the object.
11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13) They were too close to the door to close it.
14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Have a great weekend everyone.

Some thoughts on miles

Last week I mentioned I was in Atlanta. And I vaguely mentioned I drove. Seven hundred plus miles is one long drive by yourself. Yikes.

On the way back I joined a little caravan of cars going 80-90 mph from the southern end of West Virginia all the way to New Philly, Ohio on I-77. What a crazy couple hundred miles those were.

I took the first steps (literally) on accomplishing a fifteen year old dream... that's right, the Appalachian Trail. I was hoping to run into Geeza & Topshelf (Mike and Roxanne), but they were a few days and about fifty miles away. So I walked a half mile north and then back south. Pretty awesome.

Weddings bring people in from miles and miles away. Jonathan and Megan got married this weekend and there were people in attendance from California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. And those were just the plates I saw in the parking lot or knew from the guest list; I bet there were more.

Sunday we drove to Bluffton University to see my friend, Kyle graduate from college. Adding another two hundred fifty miles to an already busy driving week was too much. I was so drained at work today I fell asleep at my desk. That's what lunch breaks are for, right?
